Remember: one combined service this Sunday, September 20, at 10 AM followed by parish picnic at Fort Hunt Park off George Washington Memorial Parkway

A message from Bishop Johnson:

I am starting a series of Substack articles dealing with current issues and how our Anglican Faith and Practice addresses them.  The series is called Ancient Faith for Modern Life.

This series is loosely inspired by the Tractarians and their Tracts for the Times. The purpose is not simply to explain Anglican Catholicism, but to begin with the real questions, wounds, and struggles people—particularly those in their 20s and 30s—are experiencing today, and then show how the ancient Catholic Faith speaks directly to them.

The guiding idea is:

We are not trying to go backward. We are receiving what the Church handed down—and carrying it forward.

Each tract will begin with something recognizable in modern life—loneliness, anxiety, identity, purpose, isolation, restless desire, the search for meaning—and then lead the reader through Scripture and the witness of the early Church toward the ancient Catholic answer. Only then will we show how that faith continues to be lived in the Anglican Catholic Church today.

The second tract or post is called A Cure for Loneliness: Why Jesus Taught Us to Pray “Our Father.”  It explores the epidemic of loneliness, the deliberately corporate language of the Lord’s Prayer, St. Cyprian’s teaching that “we the whole people are one,” and the experience of belonging to the Body of Christ through our common prayer and Eucharistic worship.

I will post this next week.  I have a plan for a series of tracts throughout the next year.

My hope is that these will not merely explain our tradition, but invite people into it—not because it is old, but because it is true, alive, and speaks powerfully to modern life.

If you would like to sign up to read these, you can go to my Substack page at
https://jeff37rw.substack.com/p/before-the-denominations?action=share

I encourage you to not only check-out the Substack tracts but also share them with others, especially young people. There is a surge of young people searching for ancient Biblical Truth.  Our Anglican Catholic Faith has the answers they are seeking.

I printed the first tract, BEFORE THE DENOMINATIONS, as a booklet for folks in my parish to take and hand out. I am also sending these to all DMAS clergy to use as they see fit by adding their parish information to the bottom of the tract.

Your comments and ideas are welcome.

God's peace and strength be with you all,
+JSJ
